Why “Under Pressure”
By Brian Alfaro
Last year was a strange season for me.
From the outside, things probably looked fine. But internally, it felt like everything was under pressure.
I had just become a father. My daughter had been born not long before, and like most new dads, I was trying to figure out how to balance everything at once — being present at home while also trying to build a career and provide for my family.
At the same time, some of the business things I had been working on for years weren’t going the way I expected.
If you’ve ever been through something like that, you know the feeling.
You start carrying a lot of weight mentally. You think about the decisions you’ve made and the impact those decisions might have on the people who depend on you.
Some nights you lie awake running through a hundred different scenarios in your head.
What I realized during that season was something interesting.
The more I opened up to other men about what I was going through, the more I realized how common those conversations actually are. They just usually happen in private over lunch, on a phone call, sitting in a truck after a long day.
And when those conversations happen, you start hearing the same themes over and over again.
Pressure from work.
Pressure from business.
Pressure from family responsibilities.
Different stories. Different circumstances. But the same underlying pressure.
That’s where the idea for Under Pressure started.
Cody and I had already been having a lot of these conversations ourselves. Talking about business, fatherhood, and the reality that most men are trying to navigate a lot at once.
At some point we looked at each other and said something simple:
We shouldn’t just be having these conversations behind closed doors.
So we decided to put a microphone in front of them.
Not because we have everything figured out — far from it — but because we know how valuable those conversations can be when you’re going through a difficult season.
If even one person listens to an episode and feels a little less alone in whatever they’re dealing with, that’s a win.
That’s why the show exists.
And it’s also why this newsletter exists.
The Forge is simply a place to share some of the thoughts and lessons that come out of those conversations — about business, family, responsibility, and the seasons that shape us.
We’re glad you’re here.
From The Podcast
This week we released the first episode of Under Pressure.
Cody and I talk about something we’ve both realized over the last few years — a lot of the most meaningful conversations men have happen privately.
We talk about entrepreneurship, becoming fathers, and the pressure that comes with trying to do right by the people who depend on you.

Something Worth Thinking About
One quiet idea to carry into the week.
Most men carry more pressure than people realize.
Responsibility tends to get carried quietly.
Work.
Family.
Decisions that affect other people.
A lot of that weight never gets talked about publicly.
Sometimes the most helpful thing you can do is simply bring it into the light.
